Klean Kanteen Sports 2.0 cap

If you purchased a Klean Kanteen bottle with a Sports 2.0 cap (pictured right) before the end of May 2010 in Australia, this sports cap is subject to recall. If the top of your sports cap has a shiny surface, you have the old version which is being recalled. If the top has a matt finish, you have the new high impact version of the cap.  Site sponsor Shop Naturally stopped selling the old shiny caps at the end of May 2010. Other retailers may not have been so quick to pull their stock. The Klean Kanteen giveaway on Shop Naturally in June 2010 will have the new Sports 2.0 cap as have all sales of Klean Kanteen bottles from June 2010 onwards.

“We have been advised of a problem with the Sport Cap 2.0 that was sold with Klean Kanteen® water bottles. We are writing to you today to let you know that we are recalling and replacing the Sport Cap 2.0. Please note that it is only the Sport Cap 2.0 that is being recalled. The water bottle is not affected. Other caps sold with Klean Kanteen® bottles such as the loop, flat or sippy caps are not affected.

We have received seven reports in the United States that the spout tip of Sport Cap 2.0 is prone to breaking or cracking after being dropped. As the product is placed in the mouth, pieces could dislodge and present a choking or swallowing hazard. There have been no injuries in the United States and no reports of similar incidents in Australia. Nevertheless we are always focused on ensuring our products are as safe as possible and have decided that replacement is necessary. 

Klean Kanteen® released a new High Impact Sport Cap 2.0 that is six times more resistant to breaking or cracking and we ask for your assistance in replacing the affected product. The new high impact Sport Cap was sold with Klean Kanteen bottles from May, 2010 and you can tell the difference by looking at the cap and label. The new cap has a dull/matte finish and the label had a small silver sticker attached.

If you have purchased bottles with the Sport Cap 2.0 please stop using the cap, remove the cap from the bottle and contact 1 800 102 806 (in Australia) as soon as possible to arrange a replacement at no charge.”

While I applaud the effort, bottled water is bad for the environment, no matter what pretty little ribbon you wrap around it. It takes 10 litres of water (plus oils and other petro-chemicals) to produce a bottle capable of holding 1 litre of water. 2. If you want to, get yourself a really good water filter, or even an ordinary one to improve the taste of your drinking water.
3. Figure out how much money you saved by not getting sucked in to the bottled water industry.
4. Donate this money to a worthy program like World Vision’s ‘Water + Health = Life’.

Firstly, there’s two different kinds of stainless steel baby bottles. They’re either insulated or they’re not. Then we have the stainless steel baby drink bottles that are only single wall and not insulated. Not such a great idea for warm milk, but very useful for cold water and fruit juice. These bottles will convert from stainless steel baby bottle to stainless steel sippy cup to stainless steel drink bottle with the quick change of a lid.

Phase 1 – Stainless Steel Baby Bottle

Choose either a Klean Kanteen 12oz or ECOtanka 350ml stainless steel water bottle with and Avent adaptor as the lid. ADD a Green to Grow wide mouth teat (available in 3 different flows), or if you have an Avent baby teat at home already, they will fit just fine too (own an Avent baby bottle? Read our quick guide on finding out if your Avent baby bottle is bpa free or not). Experiment with any wide mouth baby teat if you have a draw full already, most will fit.

Phase 2 – Stainless Steel Sippy Cup

Take your Klean Kanteen or ECOtanka stainless steel baby bottle with Avent adaptor and add swap out the baby teat for an Avent sippy spout. They are available in white (6 months+) and green (12 months+). The white spout is the softer of the two. They are sold in twin packs and are available in most supermarkets & chemist shops around the country. Phase 3 – Stainless Steel Drink Bottle
